Give every decision its basis
Imagine the system.
Account for the details.
An engineering idea becomes useful through constraints, calculations, tests, and revision. Work with Atlas to give that process a coherent agenda. Keep requirements and evidence connected as the design develops, with assumptions visible enough to challenge before they become expensive commitments.
Explore all life areas ↗01Make the constraints explicit
Bring the operating conditions, requirements, interfaces, and limits that define the problem. Separate fixed constraints from choices you can still make, and keep the source and status of each requirement available as the design develops.
02Compare with a common basis
Lay out candidate approaches using consistent criteria and stated assumptions. Work through calculations and tradeoffs, identify missing inputs, and keep preliminary estimates clearly distinguished from results you have independently checked or established through testing.
03Build the review record
Prepare an account of the design, its evidence, and the questions still open for review. Retain decisions and their rationale as revisions accumulate, so later changes can be assessed against the intent and constraints that shaped them.
AN ILLUSTRATIVE AGENDA
Choosing a cooling approach
Imagine comparing cooling approaches for a compact enclosure. You provide Atlas with the intended operating conditions, available space, power limits, and existing measurements. Organize the options around the same criteria, make the assumptions explicit, and identify which estimates need testing. As results arrive, update the comparison and record why the preferred approach changed. The agenda becomes a reviewable account of the decision, with remaining validation work still visible.
